Tomato Seedling Bed

In my last tomato entry, I had little seeds placed in my used yogurt cups.  For germination purposes I put in potting soil and a zip locked plastic bag over the cup.  Then I watered those and left them in the backyard.  About a week and a half later, my little seedlings were ready to be transplanted into their new bed.

Trekpay Review - Update

This is just an update of my prior Trekpay review.  I think what I didn't talk about though the last time is whether or not the site is a scam or is legit.  All the stuff I've read about Trekpay indicates that it's legit.  I'll probably reach payout by next month so I can validate it first hand.  In order for you to get paid, you must reach $5.50 and you need a Paypal account.  Payment days are from Tuesdays to Thursdays; frequency is once a week (assuming you reach payout every week).

How to Register a Vehicle That's Not In Your Name And Was Shipped From The Province with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) - Part 1

Was that title a mouthful or not?  Well that's my situation.  I'll tell you right off that I haven't done this successfully yet so there will certainly be a part 2.  Here are the details.  I bought a Suzuki Multicab from Don Soriano / Kevin Yao (I found them in Sulit). The first thing that happened was that they processed the deed of sale (and collected the money).  I'm not sure exactly how that works, but I did find a deed of sale form in National Book Store.  Imagine that.  It's a template.  I was advised that I just needed to carry that around in case I had some episode with police (like a traffic violation).  That was in November.  Take note of the dates. They're relevant.

New Sprouts: Gotu Kola and My Tagaytay Plant

Can you guess what this is?  Of course you can.  The title gave it away.  That's a Gotu Kola sapling.  Yey!  After weeks of just doing cameos in my mango posts, something finally happened.  And I'm very glad to say that I now have first hand experience of a Gotu Kola plant spreading.  Remember, that's why I bought it:  so that it will spread and make me look like a capable gardener.  My ego says thank you. That Gotu Kola is good for gout is only an unplanned benefit.  Those light brown spots you see there are siling labuyo seeds.  Yep, I got them straight from the ref.  I hope they're easy to grow. I spread the sili flesh around the plot just in case an erring kitten decides to mess with my plants again.

Spreading My Seed - Mango Seed Germination

As you know, I've been chronicling my daily adventures growing my young mango plant.  When I started it, I showed you a picture of my mango seed as it was planted in the ground already.  Although I described it, there was no visual reference.   Since I've been eating a good number of mangoes as of late, I have more seed samples and I plan to plant them all.

Mangoes, Tomatoes, Petunias and Mums

Here's my mango plant today. As you can see, the leaves are already green and upright.  It looks like it's well on it's way to becoming a big happy plant.  I hope it has totally put the experience of being attacked by cats behind it. Yey!  Of course, that's still a 10% success rate for me, but hey, I'll take it.  As long as this one grows up to become a super mango tree.
As for my attempts to graft a mango stem into our big old mango tree, well there are no updates yet.  The stem is still green, but no new leaves have grown.  It's a wait and see.

Landfills Into Forests

I had a recent entry wherein I was speculating about garbage management. I mentioned the possibility of dumping on a valley and then covering those up and planting trees.  Far fetched?  Apparently not.

In New York, one of the biggest landfills was transformed into a park.  Called the Fresh Kills Park, it's three times the size of Central Park or around 2,200 acres!  And it's not the only one.  The Leichner Landfill (in Utah I believe) will also be transformed into something ecologically friendly.

How To Graft a Mango Stem

When I first started writing about my mango adventures, I read that mangoes are generally propagated via grafting.  Why?  There are a couple of advantages of grafted plants over plants grown from seeds:
  • Grafted plants are easier to manage because they're shorter (dwarf mango trees).  They also have better anchorage (lower center of gravity).
  • Mangoes are high value fruits.  Therefore it's important that the fruit quality is consistent (preference for the Carabao Mangoes).  Grafting a sapling with the stalk from the preferred variety makes the tree bear the fruit of the latter.  (Ex.  Bark of Variety A with Stalk of Variety B = Fruit of Variety B)
  • Here's a cool fact.  Taking from the point above, you can actually grow multiple varieties in one tree!  Imagine having both an Indian and Carabao Mango in the same tree.  Cool.
  • Grafted trees also bear fruit faster than those grown from seeds.

Petunia Care & Tomato Beds

Well, I was reading up on Petunia care. It looks like I have to transfer them.   I placed them beside my Poinsettia because the latter grew so well in our shady side yard.  But, apparently, petunias need lots of sun.  And too much watering is bad as well.  I learned a new term: deadheading.  It refers to plucking out aging flowers.  In fact, one site suggests removing all of the flowers at once.  This will make the plant even bushier.  Sometimes, petunias are also grown as hanging plants.   And they only need fertilizers once a month.

My Petunia, Attack of the Cats and The Sprout

A new day brings with it a new hope that my plants will survive.  As I've said in a prior post, I will succeed by increasing the sample size.  If I have a 1% survival rate, then I'll plant 100 times.  In case you haven't noticed yet, I have a bias for flowering plants.  I bought an Aster and a Mums plant a few weeks ago.  The Aster has since moved on to a "better place"; the Mums is now "sporting a skinhead".  Oh well.  But these two caught my eye.  One is purple and the other one is red and white.  According to the tindero, petunias bloom all year round (unlike Poinsettias which just show red blooms once a year).  Since they're also supposed to get indirect sunlight, I placed them in the side yard where my Poinsettia is located as well.  Hopefully they thrive in that low sun environment.

Work from Home Opportunities / Make Money On-line Reviews 4

Reviews: So so for iNVITE5; Thumbs Up for Palmbux

Alright, it's that time of the week again.  After doing updated reviews for Neobux, Mylot and Paid2YouTubeTrekpay, Tazoodle and Clicksense, today I will write about iNVITE5 and Palmbux.   If you'd like to check out the original paid to click write-ups, you'll find them here.  Once again, participating in these sites assumes that you already have a Paypal Account and / or Alertpay Account.

I started trying this when I opened my Neobux account.  However, I didn't find the site all that intuitive.  It has a good concept though.  You don't have to go to a site everyday to start clicking.  Instead, you install a toolbar.  If you click on the Ads button, it will open your window in the left side (like favorites or history).  There, you will find the URL to click.   In terms of convenience, I have to score it lower than the BUX layout.  Why?  Once you click on an ad, you generally have to close the window, surf to another site and then reopen before you find another ad.  So it requires some patience.

In terms of earnings, it's a little weak.  Compared to Palmbux, which I started much later, the latter's earnings have already overtaken that of iNVITE5.  However, it seems like iNVITE5's earnings potential could be much better if you have lots of active referrals.  It credits referrals to the 5th level which is good, but although I have referrals, it has not reflected notably in my earnings.  Rating: Legit but a slow earner.  You decide.

Mango Plant

Starting today, I'll stop calling it my mango seed.  I think it's time to call it mango plant.  In just 4 days, it has now grown taller than the mango seed.  Sigh...they grow so fast.  Soon it won't need me anymore.  And there's my Gotu Kola making another cameo at the background.  I think I killed the other mango seed.  Oh well, there are two more on the way. I've been eating lots of mangoes, if you haven't noticed.

Mango Seed - The Story Continues

In the last episode, curiosity got the best of me and I dug around my mango seeds to see if there was anything going on. There was! Despite the lack of activity above ground, my seeds had grown roots.  It scared me a bit because the poking might have shocked the mango seeds into oblivion.  Imagine my surprise today when I saw small leaves sprouting from the ground.  The pictures are not crystal clear, but there's no mistaking it.  That's not a grasshopper.  Those are not blades of grass.  Those are small mango leaves!  Yey.  So that means I have around a 15% survival rate because I planed a good number of seeds.   Oh well, now they're just accidental compost.  I can't wait until it looks like an actual plant!    All I can say is that all hope is not yet lost.  By the way, my Gotu Kola's doing a cameo on this picture.

Save My Chrysanthemums!

My mums are really struggling.  A couple of weeks ago, they looked fine.  It's been all downhill from that time.  At first, I figured they were burning up under the sun although our backyard's not exactly sunny.  So I moved them to the side of the house under a roof.   Unfortunately, the situation has not improved.  Sigh.

I'm not sure exactly what to do.  After purchasing the plant from Manila Seedling, I just re-potted it into a bigger one and I used our basic garden soil to surround the original potting soil.   The plant also gets watered twice a day.  So I wonder.  The soil, sun and water should be fine.  Why is it wilting?

How To Renew Your Philippine Passport

I am an administrative mess.  I will be the first to tell you that.  Thus, renewals, payment of bills and all sorts of paperwork are always at the bottom of my To Do list.  In fact, I'd put it off even if I have nothing else to do.  Well my Philippine Passport expired last March.   Oops.  So how did I renew my passport?  It was actually an easy process.

I went on-line to Teleserv DFA Express Passport Delivery.  Naturally I didn't know if it was legit.  But hey, it was on top of a Google search so it had to be good.   Turns out it was.  I scanned through the requirements.  For my situation (normal renewal), I just needed a couple of passport sized photos, photocopies of the first 5 pages and last travel entries in my passport.  They'll take care of getting the old passport and delivering the new ones to you via courier (2GO).  The total fees amounted to P1300, which was a couple of hundreds more than you handling it yourself.  But hey, it's convenient.

Work from Home Opportunities / Make Money On-line Reviews 3

Reviews: So so for Clicksense; Thumbs Up for Tazoodle

As requested, I'm doing an update on the work-from-home opportunities that I'm trying out.  At the bottom of this post, you'll see the links to the past write-ups.    Just as a reminder though, before you sign up with any of these sites, do make sure you have a Paypal Account and / or an Alertpay Account.

Alright, Clicksense doesn't have the BUX look so if you've done Neobux, Palmbux or Upbux, this would seem a little different.  However, the concept is the same.  You're also paid to click and view ads.  While I have read some write-ups about people getting paid by Clicksense, I'm personally not sure.  So I won't comment on that.  I also have not seen glowing write-ups about this one.   The upside is that the website has a PR4 ranking from Google which lends the company some legitimacy (if you're a Google believer).

I will say this though.  You just get one to two clicks per day.  Earnings wise, it's about 1/4 to 1/5 of Neobux or Trekpay.  So it's really up to you if you think it's worth your time.  If you've got an insane number of free hours just for clicking, then you don't really lose anything.  Or if you've got a surefire way of getting referrals, then that's different matter (if you do have that surefire way, tell me about it please).   Up to you if you want to sign up.

Mango Root

After weeks of wondering whether or not my mango seeds survived the planting process, I took a closer look.  Above ground, there's absolutely nothing going on.  One remained green but "seedy"; the other looked pale dead.  But hey, maybe there was something going on beneath the soil.  I carefully tried to comb the soil away from both seeds.  I gently tried to pull the seeds out from the ground.  I couldn't!  In both cases, there was a root!

So maybe my planting episode was not a complete failure.  But in checking for the root, I may have shocked the young system of my seeds.  Oh well.  Maybe they'll survive; maybe not.  At least now I know, I at least got them to root.

I'll still eat more mangoes just to improve my statistical chances of growing a big mango tree.

Sago Fix

In the past weeks, I found myself craving for mango sago (tapioca), like the one we used to have in the Tower 1 Cafeteria. In fact, I even created a discussion especially for it. With my penchant for experimentation without due research, I bought raw sago (the really small ones) from Cherry Supermarket. However, since they didn't have ripe mangoes handy, I figured I would try it out with my lakatan bananas at home first.

As it turns out, when you boil it, the concoction sorta looks like gawgaw (paste). Hmmm...odd. I turned off the flame and left it to cool down. In the early afternoon, I added more water and boiled it for a few minutes again as instructed. Now it looked like slightly brown gawgaw. Hmmm...will this go into my lengthening list of failed experiments? I was not to be denied.

New Tagline

I'm retiring my 10-year old tag line (a.k.a site description) because I think it's time for it.

Paid2YouTube - Scam Rating, Thumbs Up for Neobux and Mylot

Paid2YouTube

Just an update everyone.  In my past post regarding earning on-line opportunities, Paid2YouTube was one of sites I said I was trying out.  Well as of today, I'm officially dropping it from my list.  For the past week or so, it has had zero (0) earning opportunities (no videos to watch).  I suspect that site will close soon.  Don't sign up for it.

I'm Puzzled

I keep trying to integrate Mental Notes with my Green Inclinations and all I keep getting is a Green Mind.  ;-)

Ungreen Thumb

As you may have read, I have grown quite plant crazy again in the past weeks.  It's me reliving my teenage days when I had over a dozen rose plants with different colors (red, white, peach, pink & yellow).  With too many attempts to root and loosen the soil and to water, they died.  Sigh.

It's also me trying to start my dream mango orchard.  Naturally, I have to know how to take care of them first right.  About a week ago, I published a picture of my mango seed.  It still looks like that, but at least it's still green.  There is hope yet.  The poinsettias that I moved from indoors to our greenhouse like corridor outside the house look healthy enough but are still devoid of the big red leaves.
