A Poem
I stared at myself intently
My reflection looking back at me
A heart to heart session in progress
This serious concern I must address
How could I have cold feet while alone
Dang socialization chills to the bone
Take the words from my mouth oh dear reflection
Make this short, my painful introspection
I do have bad breath, my date said so
As I started to undo her blouse's lasso
As my mouth probed hers, I thought it was a piece of cake
She pulled away and exclaimed, "for chrisses sake"
Now I continue to stare, my admission complete
My shoulders hunched, my depression quite deep
MY soul antsy, tears at the back of my eyes
I heaved a huge sigh and raised my toothbrush to the skies
And so I pledge to stay in my ivory tower
Until I get rid of this pungent, virulent oral power.
I shall brush my pearly whites every moment, every day
Someday I will kiss again. Someday. Someday.
I stared at myself intently
My reflection looking back at me
A heart to heart session in progress
This serious concern I must address
How could I have cold feet while alone
Dang socialization chills to the bone
Take the words from my mouth oh dear reflection
Make this short, my painful introspection

Reading Masses
Recently, I came upon the realization that I am, and will always be part of the reading masses. It occurred to me that I've never been able to discuss authors and literary-highbrow issues. I've never read the books that editors and intellectual leaders talk about.
Heck I don't even know how to choose books.
Unlike in music where I choose my path boldly, I usually rely on the collective tastes of people to choose my books. Bestseller. If a million other semi-illiterate individuals thought it was a good read, it can't be that bad or that hard to read for that matter.
But of course, books within my realm of competence or interest don't count. Remove all books about the economy, technology and kinky sexuality and you'll find that the rest of my books are light-reading materials. Pictures and big fonts are optional.
I don't mind that much though. While I probably will never quote passages from War & Peace, I can always overcompensate by discussing the effects of Harry Potter on the country's fiscal crisis. It will be authoritative too since I'll be doing it while sipping coffee and smoking a pipe in my robe.

Outside Reading
I read synesthetique today. The author writes in a very entertaining way even when talking about mundane issues. And guess what?? She doesn't seem to care what happens to UAAP either! I quote:

you are freakchild, and you have better things to do with your time than watch ten men (who are old enough to know better) fight over a ball instead of over you.
