Ginebra San Miguel profit flat due to business difficulty
Should we be upset with GSMI's results? Not really. The moment it sold the water and juice businesses, it lost a viable growth strategy. This being the case, GSMI is transformed from a growth play to a dividend play. Check out the company's cashflows when the financial statements are released. It should have substantial holdings.

High Court affirms junking of airport terminal deal
Investor confidence is important and sanctity of contracts is an essential element. However, the Supreme Court decision should not be viewed negatively. The arguments are numerous and valid. At least it shows the judicial system still works.
We should instead focus on the defects in bidding out of contracts. The solution must fit the problem after all. Like I have opined a number of times in the past, poor implementation of the law is not remedied by more legislation.
This isn't really a stock market post, but nonetheless relevant I believe.

Investing in the Philippine Stock Market
And so I hear Piltel's going all the way to P3. Not a bad deal if it's true. I wonder why they denied that it will be used as a backdoor vehicle for Smart. It sure seems like a good idea. Beneficial for everyone.

Investing in the Philippine Stock Market
The stock market has been very erratic as of late. I bet most of you have been shaken out of your guts already. As for me, well I'm a bit nervous too. Although I can say with certainty that I will sell in a few weeks. I'm betting it will be all downhill until just before the elections. Maybe I'll pick up a few stocks again by that time. Nothing like election violence to provide the market with value.

What Of The New Year
Well I almost failed to make it into the market in time for the yearend rally. The scheduled third-quarter decline took its sweet time. I was waiting so long that it was already November when I checked my calendar. But it came. From what I've read in the past, the long-term trend has already tilted in favor of the bull. That's good news for longer-term investors. So, is buy and hold the strategy for these times? It could be profitable, but probably not the most efficient way to go.
Last time there was an actor running for president, I heard all those talks of migrating. I thought the same thing after all. In the end though, the market rallied right after the election, mostly because the public judged it as 'peaceful'. Will the same transpire this year? Let's wait and see.
But as for efficiency, I'll probably pull out of the market soon and go fixed income. At least until the next signal to buy pushes me off the bed.
Happy New Year! I have a feeling I'll be more active in updating my site from now on.
