Martinu’s tribute to the annihilation of the Czech village is contrasted with Sibelius’ own internalization of foreign occupation, his hopes for his country while hearing bombs dropping upon Helsinki ultimately lead the music to hope. Julliard-trained Chinese-American violinist Linda Wang shows off her impressive technique, style and flair in Bernstein’s commemoration to Plato’s Symposium. With Eugene Castillo, conductor.
